Living in London: 9 things I will miss (and 6 things I will not!)

On our last day in London I've reflected on the good and bad that the last 18 months has brought.

What I will miss about London:

  1. British appreciation for the sunshine. When the sun comes out even in the slightest glimmer, so do the people, and I will never ever take it for granted. It's beautiful summer weather in London today and I not so secretly wish it was raining to make leaving easier.

  2. The pubs are super cozy and a great community venue for everyone to flock to in the sunshine or in the midst of winter for great food, good beer and generally excellent food. It is socially acceptable to attend on any day of the week, especially if the sun is out.

  3. The parks are beautiful and people use them a lot. No one in central London really has a garden, so being in the park on a great day is a must.

  4. London is buzzing on any day at any time. The city is always vibrant and there are endless activities to enjoy.

  5. Europe is so close to London, and Ryan Air (despite the questionable service standards) make it super affordable to access.

  6. People love the Royal family and it's bizarrely entertaining. I am going to miss the overuse of Union Jacks for any somewhat British event. I am now unashamedly a Royal watcher.

  7. The transport system is excellent. Train travel anywhere in the UK is my favourite form of travel.

  8. Sunday roasts. They are great and abundant.

  9. Most importantly, the amazing, fun, wonderful people who have made our time in London the best possible.

What I will NOT miss about London:

  1. The frustrating power outlet situation in all UK bathrooms. Why can I not use my hairdryer in the bathroom, but can use an electric shaver ???!!!

  2. Not knowing whether to walk on the left or right of the footpath to avoid collision. It's chaotic.

  3. The sauna that is the tube. So hot. Always.

  4. The airport is so far away from the city. It often will take more time to get to the airport than the actual flight.

  5. Mandatory service charge when the service is generally terrible. Groan.

  6. The internet and GPS coverage is patchy at best, even in the middle of the city.

  7. UK bureaucracy at it's best when it comes to healthcare, immigration, or banking.

What I am looking forward to about Sydney:

  1. Visiting family and friends, of course

  2. Home cooked barbecues. Yes Mum and Dad, this is a request....

  3. The beautiful beaches and coastline, and weather that matches.

  4. Reasonably priced excellent coffee

  5. Being able to say thongs and pants without weird looks

  6. Exciting new life adventures 😊

Closing our life in London, and looking forward to the new challenges to come xx
