Just over an hour from London by train lies the beachside town of Brighton. Setting off for a day on the coast was perfect in the rare 28 degree sunshine.
Firstly, the coffee in Brighton is brilliant, with many independent coffee connoisseur cafes to choose from. We stopped in at Small Batch Coffee Roasters which provided an excellent start to our day.
The beach was up next, but sand between our toes was not a problem here. A length of pebbly shoreline provided the sunbaking and swim setting for us and the hundreds of other visitors who came to celebrate the good weather.
A dip into the water was quite the feat, not only because it was actually painful under foot just to get to the water, but also because the temperature of the water was extremely icy. But when in Brighton....
Once we'd had enough of the sunshine, we headed to the highly rated Terre a Terre vegetarian restaurant for a bight to eat. It was a delicious lunch with the most amazing veggie delicacies like smoked tofu, buttermilk fried haloumi, and polenta chips with guacamole, along with delicious cocktails. A sunny outdoor terrace is available for dining if you go right to the back of the restaurant, which is deceiving by it's facade.
The Lanes are another great tourist attraction at Brighton, and for good reason. The cute and quirky shops that fill the tiny lanes contain items you can only find in Brighton. For example, the Choccywoccydoodah chocolate shop and the many beautiful gems in the antique jewellery stores on every corner. Needless to say, I found a few items that I'd love to buy!
Brighton Pier was our last stop, and the historic pier and theme park is the prefect spectacle for the seaside town. Kids and adults alike enjoyed the rides on offer, and the theme park food to accompany. On a perfect day, there are a couple of great outdoor bars and restaurants to take in the view of the coastline.
After a summer day trip to a quirky and fun town, we left to head back to the grind of London. Next time I'm hoping to explore the music and art scene, and buy one of those amazing antiques!
